Well the "Home Run Grant" administered through Utah Housing came and went pretty quickly. And why not? $6,000 free dollars for anyone buying a new home! Count me in! But many people were let down with how fast it was all used up.
So is there good news?
There has been much speculation on whether or not new funds would be available, and if so when, and how much... I spoke with a state senator who said that it would not happen prior to the next legislative session, and that a special sessions would not provide new funds because there was no money to go around.
Well, I just heard today in a closed meeting from a very reliable source that Speaker David Clark promised that an additional $10,000,000 to $15,000,000 would be available next month. Ten million is what we had on the first go around, and allowed about 1666 grants of $6,000 each to be given away. It stimulated the housing market, but there were many critics, especially home owners trying to sell a home that was previously lived in.
We will see what happend here in the next weeks.
